Integrity at its core is wholeness. But that word implies many
definitions such as honesty, transparency, the ability to be trusted,
consistency between behavior and speech, responsibility, faithfulness,
and discipline. Integrity is what you do when no one is looking.
There isn't a right way to do the wrong thing. We don't say that a
person is 75% or 95% integritous. There is only one choice, does he
have integrity or not, there is no middle road. Integrity constitutes
the key to success because integrity creates trust, and trust widens
your influence and your leadership. How do you guard integrity?
Focus your life on building character and holiness, not on success and
achievement.
If riches are lost, you didn't lose anything.
If health is lost, something is lost.
If character is lost, everything is lost.
(Billy Graham)
2. Reach For Excellence
Do everything with excellence. Martin Luther King Jr. once wrote, "If
your part is to sweep the roads, then sweep the road like Michelangelo
painted, like Beethoven wrote music, like Shakespeare wrote poetry.
Sweep the roads with excellence so that every inhabitant of heaven and
earth will be awed and say, 'His life as a sweep was outstanding, he
did his work well'."
3. Work With Diligence
Laziness is not only defined as sitting all day without doing
anything. A lazy person can also seem to work hard without stopping.
Laziness can also be defined as not doing something you need do at the
time when it needs to be done. For example, a busy person works
morning till night, but doesn't clean his room which is very messy.
There are things he should do but doesn't do. Some signs of laziness
are:
* My desk/house is messy
* I'm late getting to work or late to meetings
* I'm always in a rush to leave for work and there isn't time to
eat breakfast or take the kids to school, but once I'm at work I waste
time on the internet
* I work just enough to get by, but without sincere effort
Laziness constitutes the first step on the road to destruction.
God gives food to the birds of the air,
but he never puts it in their nests.
4. Maintaining Balance
We need to do many things daily: work, organize the house, spend time
with our children, take care of our parents, be involved in
organizations, arrange investments, and repair the leaking roof.
Balance is not another thing on the list of priorities, but rather
more like a juggler who juggles several balls in his hands.
Balance is the ability to continue to acknowledge and juggle various
tasks and opportunities in life. This needs practice and desire. We
need to know which ball is in our hands, and give it the necessary
attention it needs. For example smaller children need more attention
than older children. It's not easy to achieve balance, but the effort
is still needed. Ask the Creator for wisdom to understand in the
future, what needs our specific attention at the moment it is needed.
5. Take time to rest
So many things need to be done around us, not only at work, but also
at the house and in our personal social life. It feels impossible to
rest with the work that needs to be done. However, we need rest. It
requires faith to be able to rest and not worry about the things that
are not done, or the pressure from our colleagues who never rest. Yet,
we receive many benefits from rest. Rest gives us time to think on
some of the following; self reflection, our relationship with God, and
other things. Without our Sabbath, we are not able to reach our
maximum potential.
